From tomorrow, 3rd December, companies and organizations can register new top level domain, .tel.

This new domain will store the contact information directly into DNS (Domain Name System) in encrypted format. So next time, when your contact information changes, you do not need to send email or notes to everyone to change the information. You can only update your .tel domain and information will automatically update your friend’s address books.

Since the information is directly stored on DNS, individual or company can choose to display this information public. This might open some opportunities for location based services.
